This is a link to an article by Sarah Rosenfeld Johnson from Talk Tools. I didn't find this article until K was probably 2.5 or 3 years old but luckily, just by chance we did follow most of the techniques that the article suggests. K has never stuck out her tongue & has always had quite good oral tone so I think these techniques & later doing oral motor exercises has really helped.

  1. I'm so grateful that Sammi's ST that she had from the very beginning (starting @2 mos.) was a strong advocate of oral motor exercises. It makes me sad that so many places' EI programs won't allow ST until the child is of speaking age and showing a speech delay. That's just toooooo late. :-(

  2. I agree Becca. It is so likely they our kids will have speech delays that we should be working proactively.
