K sang this to me today. Word for word. Unbeknownst to me, her sister KJ spent a little time one afternoon last week teaching this to K in preparation for my birthday today. Unprompted, K gave me the cheekiest smile & sang the whole entire song. The only variation was that for some reason she ended the song "Happy Birthday, one, two."
Good speech & the ability to learn quickly is a good trait right?
K does know when it is appropriate or not too. She sang the song properly when everyone sang happy birthday to me tonight.
If my cheeky little monkey decides to cooperate, I'll try to post of video of her singing in the next couple of days.
I started this blog hoping to inspire other parents to help their children with Down syndrome reach for the sky! My daughter was reading words, before she was 2 years of age & reading books by 3.5 years. I believe kids with Down syndrome can do amazing things if we give them the right tools. I truly believe high expectations can make a tremendous difference in the lives of our children!

One Lovely Blog Award
Thanks to Michelle over at Just a Mom With a Camera for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog award!
1. Thank – my nominator and link back to the site. Thanks again, Michelle!
2. Share – 7 things about myself
1. I have worked for myself (part time) for about 16 years. It sure beats working for someone else! I work when I want, how much I want, & schedule it around my kid's & husband's schedules.
2. I live on a cattle farm & have lots of animals including cats, horses & a pony, 2 dogs, a llama, chickens, a pair of sugar gliders & a bearded dragon. The last 2 types of critters belong to my 3 older daughters.
3. I like to think of myself as a crunchy mom but I have to admit that I have a few weaknesses like chocolate.....& sweets.......... Okay, maybe I'm just semi crunchy:)
4. I'm a compulsive researcher - but if you read my blog, I bet you already knew that!
5. I enjoy country music but listen to other kinds too.
6. I have sleep apnea & use a Cpap machine.
7. I went to Disneyland for the first time when I was 22 - & I had a blast! Just like I was a little kid!

Gathering the Info............
That's how I feel about a lot of things we have taught K. It's been a few years since we started teaching her & I am really seeing the results now. There are times when my husband laughs at the wide variety of subjects K is learning. Not that he disagrees - he just finds it entertaining. For example, this week on Little Reader we are learning about biomes as well as a more in depth look at the digestive system. It seems like a lot for her age but my husband also laughed when around 18 months of age we did carpentry tools. One year later when we built our house, K knew what a hammer, saw, nails etc were. At 18 months K was just "gathering the info" but a year later she put that info to work as she played carpenter & occasionally retrieved a misplaced tool for someone.

Recent Research on a Drug to Help with Cognition
Here is a link to a recent study in a drug to help cognition in people with a trisomy 21. As I have said before, drugs are not the first approach that I would use & although I won't be first in line to sign K up for any research studies for prescription drugs to help with cognition any time soon, it is something I like to be aware of.

What are your thoughts on this study & the subject of using drugs to help with cognition?

The Experiment Continues.....................
I blogged back in June about this bread that my parents left at my house after a visit & here it is the end of July & the bread is still going strong! They actually purchased it in May & it has been sitting out on my counter ever since! It is a little whitish looking on top but that is pretty much how it looked in the beginning. It is not as soft as it was a couple of months ago, but is still softer than my organic bread is when I buy it & it certainly still looks edible. I'm sure that most people would probably eat it & have no idea that it is over 2 months old. Ewwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
